History

The Chamber team is here to help your organisation achieve its goals. The Chamber organisation was started over four hundred years ago by a group of businessmen in the French city of Marseilles.

These men were driven by the need to promote business opportunities for their members. In 1906 the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce (later the Waikato Chamber of Commerce) was created to serve its community with similar goals in mind.

The Chamber was established during a dynamic decade in terms of Hamilton’s early development and quickly became the champions of Waikato business.  Over one hundred years on, the same is true today.

With the confidence of a long history, and support by a pre-eminent parent business association (New Zealand Chambers of Commerce) the Waikato Chamber has grown in stature to become one of the cities key organisations, supporting and promoting commerce and industry in the region.

Many long standing and well recognised organisations, both national and international, have failed to survive the test of time. The Chamber is as relevant today as it was when it began, and that is the secret of our success.
