Alumni membership is a special new category of the Waikato Chamber of Commerce.

It is by invitation only.

Designed for retired business and professional people, it enables them to remain up-to-date in the world of business.

Membership, which is non-voting, brings with it an opportunity to participate and contribute in various Chamber activities.

Membership benefits

  • Alumni will receive regular Chamber newsletters by email with comment & opinion on issues facing business, member updates, news of upcoming events and more.
  • Invites to special events at member rates, including keynote speakers, Business After 4 and Waikato Business Awards.
  • Special member discounts at many retail stores and businesses.
  • Attend Alumni only events when membership base is grown to a viable level.
  • Priority tickets to Waikato Business Awards at member cost.
  • Ability to contribute as part of the Chamber’s Mentor Programme.
  • Provide nominations to the Hall of Fame for consideration by the HoF committee.
  • Nominate new Alumni for membership to Alumni Committee.
  • Opportunity to participate in the Waikato Business Awards judging panel.
  • Opportunity to continue to network within the business community.

Membership criteria

  • Alumni membership is an individual non-voting category of the Waikato Chamber of Commerce.
  • Alumni will be former members of the wider Waikato business environment.
  • Individuals should be a significant businessperson who has through their business contributed to the prosperity of the Waikato.
  • Membership is by invitation only.
  • Alumni are not required to have been members of the Waikato Chamber of Commerce previously and do not need to be based in the Waikato.
  • Members must be retired from full-time executive work but may hold governance or other part-time roles. 
  • In recognition of the role played in their partner's career, spouses of Alumni members are also eligible to join with full member benefits.

Cost & inclusions

Individual Alumni cost is $150 per annum, excluding GST.

Membership provides the opportunity to attend all Chamber events at member rates. And entry to all Alumni events once the membership base reaches a viable level.

Interim Alumni Committee

The Establishment Committee of the Alumni membership is comprised of the following people. A permanent committee to manage the Alumni membership and communicate with the Chamber will be established in due course.

  • Dick Breukink: Owner, DB Hospitality Services; former General Manager, Novotel and Ibis Tainui Hamilton.
  • Grant Robson: Regional Manager Small Business, BNZ.
  • Gordon Chesterman: former Deputy Mayor; former National President, PR Institute of NZ; former Chair & Government appointee, Wintec.
