Bill Gallagher Snr was technically creative from an early age, devising various gadgets to assist in the family's farming work. In the 1930s, he developed the electric fence, selling battery powered units and being granted a patent. After the war, where he was co-opted to work for the Colonial Ammunition Company, Gallagher resumed manufacturing developing many products and businesses, and venturing into the Australian and United Kingdom markets. Bill remained as a director in the company until 1989. In 1990, he was made a member of the Order of the British Empire.
