Christmas New Year Holidays

Public holidays are celebrated on the day they fall unless the employer and employee agree in writing to transfer the observance of the public holiday to another working day or where Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Day and 2nd of January fall on either a Saturday or Sunday.

The rule is that if these public holidays fall on either a Saturday or Sunday employees who normally work on these days celebrate the public holiday on these days. For employees who don’t normally work on a Saturday or Sunday, the public holiday is transferred to the Monday or Tuesday respectively. To help you decide whether an employee is entitled to take the public holiday you will need to determine if the public holiday falls on an otherwise working day. The Department of Labour has a Holidays and Leave Tool that can help you with this. You can also use this chart to determine which day the public holiday will be taken.

For more information about public holidays and what to pay for a public holiday visit the Department of Labour website.

Member2Member Offers

To add more value to Chamber members we are looking for members who wish to make member to member offers to other members.

Discounting can be a risk for businesses and we certainly do not want businesses to add undue risk but for those who can, it starts a loyalty opportunity within the region and keeps the economic cycle strong in Waikato.

Awesome Service Award Winner

Our latest winner was nominated by long time Waikato Times subscriber, Patricia Waugh, who wanted to highlight Memphis’s excellent customer service.

P
atricia said Memphis has been delivering their Waikato Times daily paper for a couple of years.  Memphis was 12 years old when she started delivering their paper and as they live down a long drive she has always delivered the paper to their front door,
has a little chat and throws the Jack Russell's ball for him several times before she continues on her way.

As Patricia is 81 she greatly appreciates her visits and the service that she gives.
When there are often endless stories about the wrong doings of young people it is great to have contact with such a treasure.

Celebrating Amazing Business Growth

The Deloitte Fast 50 index has been celebrating business growth in New Zealand since 2001. The Fast 50 is a Deloitte initiative which operates in 32 countries or regions worldwide. The Deloitte Fast 50 index has become a barometer of successful, innovative businesses across the country.

Entries to the index are compiled through a combination of Deloitte research, public nominations, and businesses stepping up to be benchmarked. Businesses that choose to enter and meet the entry criteria are then ranked according to their percentage revenue growth. The 50 businesses with the highest percentage growth will make up the 2011 Deloitte Fast 50.

Waikato Businesses have featured very well in the Fast 50 with more than two Waikato businesses making the top 10 each year. You may not realise the significance of your growth in the last year so talk to a Deloitte representative to see if your business qualifies for the 2011 Deloitte Fast 50.
