Waikato Business Awards Update
The Waikato Business Awards judging process is well underway, with site visits commencing this week. Over the next two weeks, our judging panel will meet with shortlisted entrants from across the region, gaining first-hand insight into the people, innovation, leadership and achievements driving Waikato businesses forward.

We extend our thanks to all businesses and individuals that entered this year's Awards and wish our judges and shortlisted entrants all the best as they progress through the next stage!
 

Health and Safety at Work Amendment Bill
Changes to the Health and Safety at Work Act will take effect from 1 April 2027, giving businesses time to prepare. The reforms introduce a more risk-based approach, with a stronger focus on managing critical risks that could result in serious harm, while providing clearer expectations for PCBUs. Now is a good time for businesses to review their key workplace risks, ensure appropriate controls are in place, and keep leaders actively involved in health and safety. Employment Leave Bill
Last week Government passed a new Employment Leave Bill, replacing the Holidays Act with a simpler, hours-based leave system designed to make leave calculations easier and more consistent for both employers and employees. While the legislation has now passed, businesses will have a 24-month transition period before the new system takes effect, giving employers and payroll providers time to prepare. Keep an eye on guidance from MBIE on their Employment New Zealand website, which will provide implementation resources and timelines over the coming months.
